I survived my first week of internship! It has been great, and I'm learning so much. I think I have finally adjusted to waking up early and going to bed late. I had gotten so used to going to bed around midnight (or even later) and now my bedtime is no later than 10. I've acutally been waking up too early, maybe I can go to bed a little later =)
I haven't taught a full lesson yet, but I have gone over their morning work with them and I always walk around to assist them with their work. I love seeing the moment where I'm working with them and they all of suddent understand what they are supposed to do! It reminds me why I want to teach, because we all know it can be difficult being stuck in a room with 17 kids for 6 hours.
I started working on my portfolio, I have set 3 goals so far that I would like to accomplish during my internship. 1-to explore ways to keep students interested and focused during the lesson. 2- to explore different ways to transition from one activity to another. 3- to discover different consequences for misbehavior and ways to address misbehavior.
Tuesday I had a moment at the end of the day where I felt totally worn out and overwhelmed. Teachers have so much they are responsible for and required to do. I haven't even begun to take on full responsibility for teaching the class yet, but as I'm observing and learning all their is to do, it just made me want to cry. I know I can do it though, it's just an eyeopener, you don't really realize all the things teachers do until you are in that place.
Next week my directing teacher (that's what we call the teacher who's class we're in for internship, DT for short) will be out of town for 3 days! Legally a substitute teacher has to be in the classroom with me but I will be the one teaching all day. I'm super excited to be able to have this little bit of freedom but terrified at the same time! I'm not sure how the students are going to act. Although Thursday my DT left the room for about 10 minutes and when she first left the students thought they could start talking (they were taking a test), I immediately told them they were not allowed to talk during a test, and I think they realized my authority a little more because they didn't try to talk after that.
Well that's my update for the week, hopefully I'll be able to post again next week!

Internship Week 1
Good morning!
I haven't been on because I've been so busy! My internship is going great. I love my directing teaching and my students. They're a pretty good set of kids they just like to talk :)
I haven't taught a full lesson yet, hopefully I will this week. But I've done a lot of working one on one and small groups. I've also learned many other things teachers have to do.
This week I'm working on selecting a group of students that need help in a particular area, which is probably going to be comprehension. I'll try to keep you all updated. I don't have any photos of my outfits, my hubby hasn't been here to help me take pictures and I don't have a good mirror to take pictures in but hopefully I'll be able to post some soon!
For internship we have to create a portfolio and our format is really interesting because its online so we can include photos and videos. I'm excited about starting that!
Well I got to go!

Internship Day 3
Tomorrow is the big day! First day in the actual classroom! I'm a mix of emotions but most of all I'm excited! I met with my college supervisor ( she's the one who will be periodically observing, making sure I'm on track, and be my support) and she is amazing! She is so open, friendly, and supportive. She gave us all lots of tips and advice.
Below is a picture of my outfit today. Ignore my hair, the picture was taken last night when I was deciding what to wear so it wasn't quite styled. Haha
Well I'm sure I will have plenty to write about my day tomorrow. I have three more seminars, and they're about to start!

Internship Day 2
Yesterday was the first Orientation. It was so long and I had the worst headache ever! Today is a littler shorter with more breaks inbetween.
So I'm not the most stylish person, and I never really cared how I dressed until I graduated highschool, but for this internship I have to dress professionally. For Christmas my mom took me shopping for a couple of outfits. I got most of my clothes from New York and Company ( great place for professional clothing, and affordable) and pants from JC Penny's. other than that most of my shirts were picked up from Plato's closet or Salvation Army ( gotta love thrift stores!). I'm gonna try to post pictures of my outfits, mostly for myself to refer back too :)
Well orientation part 2 is about to start so I gotta go!

Internship.... Begins!
Tomorrow I start a new chapter in my left, yesterday I ended another. I am no longer working for Chick-fil-A. My first day of internship for teaching is tomorrow. It's just seminars and orientation, but it still begins!
I'm going to try to keep the blog updated through my journey. I've been placed in a 2nd grade classroom with a veteran teacher. Unfortunately I have not had the chance to meet my teacher before the first day of internship (Thursday, which is also my birthday!). I'm a little nervous but super excited at the same time! I really wanted 2nd or 3rd grade so I'm so happy.
Wish me luck :)
A future teacher,
Kristina
